Saturday, Sept. 5

Segovia
Recommended: General Interest
Segovia is one of the several must-do day trips while in Madrid.  Join us to visit this city, which has been named a World Heritage site, famous for its Roman aqueduct that stands tall in the center of the old quarter.  In addition, you will see numerous Romanesque churches and the Cathedral and Fortress (castle).
Price includes transportation to and from the University in private coach along with a guided visit in English and entrance fees.
Minimum of 20 students required.

Sunday, Sept. 6

Toledo
Recommended: General Interest
Toledo –another World Heritage site just outside of Madrid that you cannot leave Madrid without visiting– is one of the Spanish cities with the greatest wealth of monuments. It is known as the “city of the three cultures” because Christians, Arabs and Jews lived together in this city for centuries.  Behind its walls, Toledo preserves an artistic and cultural legacy in the form of churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques and synagogues.

Saturday, Sept. 12

El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen
Recommended: General Interest
Visit two emblematic architectural monuments located within the province of Madrid.  The monastery of El Escorial was built by King Philip II and in it are buried many of Spain’s past monarchs.  It is located in a picturesque area with beautiful views of Spanish landscape. 
Afterwards, visit the controversial Valle de los Caídos, which is the burial site of the former Spanish dictator, Francisco Franco, and José Antonio Primo de Rivera.

Sierra of Madrid

Sept. 24 – 27

Murcia, Alicante and Valencia
Mandatory for EAS-105 Introduction to Oceanography
Recommended: General Interest

You will go to Spain's southeastern coast (Mar Menor) to visit oceanography institutes, a desalination site, natural reserves and natural parks. The excursion includes a boat ride to Tabarca Island, which provides the opportunity - weather permitting - to snorkel in its crystal blue waters and identify the different organisms studied in the course. The first night is spent in San Pedro de Pinatar (Murcia) and then two nights in Santa Pola, Alicante, ending the trip with a stop in Valencia to visit the famous Oceanographic Museum. Price includes transportation, lodging, excursions included in final itinerary, and breakfast.

Alicante
Mandatory trip for SOC: 324 Introduction to World Archaeology
Recommended: General interest

On this trip to Alicante, you will visit local archaeological sites as well as local museums, including the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (Marq). You will also visit the L’Alcudia de Elche, a site that was inhabited from the Neolithic until the late Visigothic period where an extraordinary wealth and variety of objects have been uncovered.

Loyola, Basque Country
Campus Ministry Retreat

November 5 – 9

Morocco
Recommended: General interest

We will travel to Morocco via ferry from the Algeciras Port in southern Spain, crossing the Strait of Gibraltar and arriving to Tangier. This trip has a particular dynamic to it, focusing on interaction with the local community and culture. You spend a night in a home-stay with Moroccan families, socializing and sightseeing with local students from Rabat University. We will be accompanied by a local Moroccan guide, as well as by a former Peace Corps volunteer. All meals in Morocco and transportation are included in this trip.

Brussels
Mandatory trip for ECON-395 Economics of the European Union
Recommended for IR students

The NEW EUROPE. A first-hand experience during a visit to the European Parliament in Brussels. Meetings and interviews are arranged with dignitaries and decision-makers of the EU. This study trip is rounded off with an excursion to beautiful Bruges (home of the first stock exchange in Europe). Price includes air transportation, lodging, breakfast, and excursions included in final itinerary.
