Arrival

■ Arrival to Barajas Airport, Madrid

Move-in Day

If you arrive at Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas Airport between 8:30 am 5:30 pm on Move-in Day, University representatives will meet you in the airport to assist you in getting a taxi to take you to your housing assignment.

Housing placement for the next term is currently underway. If by the day before arrival day, you do not know the contact information for your University-approved Housing assignment, please contact Ms. Ashley Teal at housing@madrid.slu.edu.

All students are responsible for making your own way to your housing assignment.

Keep in mind that mandatory orientation sessions for all new students will be held at the beginning of each term the day after Moving-in Day. Please make your travel arrangements accordingly, as you are required to attend these sessions.

■ Transport from the Airport

When arriving to Barajas Airport with luggage, we do NOT recommend that you use the Metro to reach the University or city center, as transporting luggage in the Metro is difficult. We recommend that you take a taxi to your destination. All taxis by law must use a meter. You cannot negotiate a fixed rate fee to a destination. Fares to the University and city center run from €25 - €30 depending on traffic.

Note that there is a €5.50 surcharge for all airport taxis, which will not appear on the meter but is a legal charge. Taxis cannot charge an extra fee for luggage.

Change about €50 worth of money in your home country BEFORE coming to Spain in order to cover the cost of your taxi fare and other incidentals.

Otherwise, activate your debit card in your home country BEFORE you leave for Spain. This will allow you to take money out of an ATM at the airport.

While this is not a University-related or approved service, for transportation to and from the airport, many of our students use:

MAD SHUTTLE (www.madshuttle.com) or AEROCITY (www.aerocity.com)

■ Please Provide Arrival Information & Take Note of the Move-In Date

*** Please provide Student Life (studentlife@madrid.slu.edu) your complete arrival information with your payment (Time/Day/Airline/Flight Number) ***

This is the only way we can ensure that your host family and/or RA will be waiting for you at your housing assignment.

Students who are not in our housing system are still required to provide this information. If your arrival plans have changed, please contact us at studentlife@madrid.slu.edu so that we can update your information.

■ Early Arrival

Students may NOT move-in to homestays or residences before the Move-in Date.

You are fully responsible for all of your accommodations if you arrive in Madrid before the Move-in Date. Upon request, Student Life can provide you with a list of area hostels and hotels.

Move-in Day for Fall 2009 is on Monday, August 31st, 2009.
