Hands On Learning

In the Madrid office of Willis, an international insurance broker based out of London, Ignacio Mallagray has been spending his summer hard at work, learning the hustle and bustle of the business world. He is currently doing an internship in the communications and marketing department of Willis as a part of “Oviedo” - a special campaign which is designed to contact and offer Willis’ various services to the CEO’s of targeted corporations. Ignacio states that during his time there he has learned, “what it’s like to work in a professional environment, how the various departments work together and how they fit into the hierarchies of a corporation. More importantly, [though,] I’ve learned how to deal with clients.” For example, “Yesterday I contacted the CEO of a very well-known motor company [within] Oviedo and arranged a meeting for next week. I am very excited about this prospective client, who could make Willis a lot of money.”

When asked what he liked most about his experience at Willis, Ignacio said, “The possibility of working in a professional environment. Thanks to this opportunity I now feel prepared for my next job in a future company. It is great because I learn new things every day, from how to communicate with clients and how to negotiate, to how to market effectively using very important tools for targeting.” One of the most important lessons he has learned during his time at Willis is that, “We must trust our potential clients very well in order for them to earn our trust. We have to trust each other in order to do business. It is like giving value in order to receive future value. That’s what marketing is… I strongly encourage them (other students) to apply for an internship,” says Ignacio. “It is the best way to see the concepts learned in class and [how] to put them into practice.” In the Madrid office of Willis, an international insurance broker based out of London, Ignacio Mallagray has been spending his summer hard at work, learning the hustle and bustle of the business world.
