Lecturer on Spanish Music


Luis Ángel de Benito began his musical education at an early age under the direction of his father, José Antonio de Benito, and then with Joaquín Soriano (piano), Antonio Barrera (harmony), Rafael Eguílaz (counterpoint), Carmen López (art history) and Ángel Botia (musical analysis) at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, where he graduated with honors in harmony, counterpoint, solfege and art history.

He continued his studies with José Peris, Enrico Fubini and Claudia Colombati, graduating with a Diploma in Advanced Studies from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He then pursued post-graduate work on the analysis of music from the Romantic period with Charles Rosen (Universidad de Alcalá de Henares) and rhetoric and symbolism in Bach with Hubert Meister (Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid).

His publications include two books, Aplicación Metodológica del Análisis Musical with Javier Artaza and a collaboration in Francisco Estévez’s Acústica Musical, as well as diverse articles and compositions in Música y Educación, Fundación Isaac Albéniz, Jackmann Music Corporation, Théleme, Scherzo, APEM, and ABC Cultural.

Mr. de Benito has directed courses on musical analysis in the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo and has been a lecturer at professional conferences at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Universidad Complutense, the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares and the Fórum de Violonchelos. He is currently a professor of harmony and analysis at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid and of music history at Saint Louis University, Madrid Campus.
