FACULTY PRESENTATION / JANUARY 25 (6:30 pm) · LIBRARY READING ROOM
In a presentation entitled “‘Cerebral Dynamite’: José Peirats, Anarchism and the Struggle for Enlightenment in 20th-Century Spain” – Dr. Chris Ealham will examine José Peirats’s lifelong commitment to the struggle for social justice and education. Described in his El País obituary as ‘the theoretician and the Herodotus’ of the Spanish anarchism, Peirats had no real formal education; rather he was an autodidact and a product of the alternative educational initiatives sponsored by the libertarian movement. This unswerving commitment to education – the cultivation of ‘cerebral dynamite’ – can be seen as the most enduring legacy of Spanish anarchism.
