All SLU Madrid returning students should stop by Student Life before Friday, September 17 to renew their student ID card and pick up their new Sanitas card. The Student Life Office is located on the ground floor of Padre Rubio Hall.

Campus Climate: Please keep in mind that in compliance with Spanish law, smoking is prohibited on the Saint Louis University – Madrid Campus. Also, within classrooms, computer labs and the library, no food or drink (other than water) is allowed.

Signs to post?  Please take them to the Student Life Office (PRH) which will both approve them for posting and make certain that they are posted appropriately (on designated bulletin boards).

Special Bookstore Hours:  Until the 14th of September, the bookstore will be open with expanded hours from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, for book purchase, exchange and refund.

OPPORTUNITIES & INVITATIONS

Opportunities for Community ESL - English Language Teaching / Volunteer as an English Language Teacher in our Community ESL program. Volunteer teachers work in pairs and are responsible for preparing, planning and teaching their own classes (although help is readily provided if needed!). The students who come to take these free English classes – which take place on the Madrid Campus – may range from 14 to 70 years old, from newly arrived immigrants to bank managers. You will meet people from outside the campus and will have an unforgettable experience!  For more information or to sign up directly, contact Hamish Binns in the Language Teaching Center (PRH 1st floor beside the elevator) or write to hbinns@slu.edu.

Are you looking for a Language Exchange?  / Come to the 1st floor of Padre Rubio Hall. As you step out of the elevator, you will find a notice board opposite where you can fill out a form and try to find a language partner. Theatre Auditions and Crew Sign-Up  / Actor auditions and crew sign-up for this fall's theatre production, "The Dining Room" by A.R. Gurney, directed by Greg Stanford, will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, the 14th and 15th of September at 7 pm in basement of Padre Rubio Hall, outside the bookstore. No experience or prior preparation is necessary; all are welcome to come and join us in putting on another show.

Be the Music - Join the SLU Choir! / Do you want to experience music from within, not only as a listener, but as a doer, a performer?  Then join the SLU Choir!  No previous musical studies or choral experience is required.  The choir is performance-based and will rehearse Mondays and Wednesdays 17:30-18:45. 0 or 1 credit.  For more information, contact choir director Gudrún Ólafsdóttir at golafsdo@slu.edu. Trip to Morocco Information Meeting · Wednesday, September 8 · 2.00 pm · Padre Rubio Hall 16 / The director of Morocco Exchange Ltd. will provide information about this four-day culture-immersion trip planned for October 8 (departure at 10:30 pm) – October 11. Application deadline is September 15. Participants travel by bus to Algeciras on the southern coast of Spain where they catch a ferry to cross the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier.  More information about Morocco Exchange (in charge of this trip) is available in the Intercultural Section of the website:  http://moroccoexchange.org.

Stuck on your homework?  Need help with your English?  With your Spanish?  Visit the English Writing Assistance Center and the Spanish Assistance Center located in the entry area of Manresa Hall.   The schedule of the English Writing Assistance Center is: Monday & Wednesday, 11:30 am - 3:30 pm, and Tuesday & Thursday, 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm. The Spanish Assistance Center is open Monday through Thursday, 4:30pm - 6:30 pm.
