Guidelines for Participation in SLU-Madrid Commencements
May Graduation
Those qualified to participate as “graduates” are:
- Those who are completing their degree at the end of the spring semester and who, having submitted to the Office of the Registrar an “application for degree” form, have been approved by the Madrid Campus Academic Dean for degree conferral in May.
- Those who are completing their degree at the end of the second summer session and who, having submitted to the Office of the Registrar an “application for degree” form, have been approved by the Madrid Campus Academic Dean for degree conferral in August.
- Those who will have completed all degree requirements by the end of the spring semester or by the end of the second summer session and who for reasons approved by the Academic Dean are deferring the granting of their degree until the following January* degree conferral date. (Example: a student who is deferring graduation in order to participate in an internship before graduating.)
- Those students with academic histories on the Madrid Campus who would otherwise be qualified to participate in the May Graduation ceremonies on the St. Louis Campus, and who have been certified for graduation eligibility by the appropriate St. Louis Campus administrator/s. (No student may participate in ceremonies on both campuses.)
December Graduation
Those qualified to participate as “graduates” are:
- Those who are completing their degree by the end of the fall semester and who, having submitted to the Office of the Registrar an “application for degree” form, have been approved by the Madrid Campus Academic Dean for degree conferral in January*.
Notes
- As part of the degree approval process, degree applications are reviewed by appropriate administrators on the St. Louis Campus.
- Students who have completed all graduation requirements by December and who otherwise would have been qualified to participate in the December graduation ceremony may choose instead to participate in the following May graduation ceremony.
- While a student may under the above circumstances participate in a graduation ceremony prior to the completion of all degree requirements, a student will not receive a diploma nor be issued a transcript indicating degree completion until all degree requirements have been met and the student has an approved “application for degree.”
* While the mid-year graduation ceremony takes place in December, the University's official degree conferral date is in early January for those completing degrees at the end of the fall semester.
