Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery Services (ILL/DDS)
The library offers faculty members an interlibrary loan and document delivery service.
All requests for loans and/or copies must be placed through the Madrid Campus Library Offices, as ILL/DDS is a service that functions between libraries and not individuals and libraries. To place an ILL/DDS request, please fill out the appropriate form below and send.
For further information contact the library director (jaratahe@slu.edu).

Course Reserves
Faculty members may request the library to place certain materials on "Reserve" for use by students in specific courses. Reserve materials may be so-called Traditional Reserve Materials or Electronic Materials.
Copyrighted materials must adhere to current copyright regulations in effect on all SLU campuses. The library has the right to refuse any materials for reserve which may infringe copyright. For more information: (http://libraries.slu.edu/node/103)
PLEASE NOTE: At the beginning of each semester please allow for a minimum of seven days for reserve materials in any format to become available for student use, due to the unusual number of requests that we will be asked to process at these times. Also, be aware that all items placed on reserve (both traditional and electronic) will be automatically removed at end of each semester/summer term. If you plan to use same materials in following semester, then please notify us in advance.
Traditional Reserve Materials correspond to either print materials (books, journals) or audiovisual materials in library collection or photocopied material. Such materials are available to students upon request in the Library Office and are kept on the "Reserve Shelf" until the end of the academic term. With respect to print materials, these can be made available for use in the library only or for one, two or three day loan periods. It is up to the instructor to decide on this.
Audiovisual materials such as CDs, DVDs, CD-Roms or tapes can only be used by students in the library. Items in video format are not available for student use as library does not have video-viewing equipment. The library will not place reference materials on reserve as these are already non-circulating items readily available to all students. With respect to textbooks, the library automatically places on reserve most textbooks used in a current semester. Textbooks on reserve are kept at the circulation desk on the main floor and can only be used in the library.
"Reserve Shelf" that is handed in to the library.
Any photocopied material that instructor wishes kept on reserve must be prepared by instructor, handed in with the request form and include complete bibliographical information.
Copies should be one-sided, clear and pages of set individually numbered. All photocopied material must adhere to current copyright regulations in effect on all SLU campuses (http://libraries.slu.edu/node/103)
Any materials lent temporarily to library from your personal libraries should accompany the request form. These will be returned to you at end of the term. Nonetheless, the library cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage to such materials.
Electronic Reserve Page (ERes)
Faculty may also ask library staff to create an Electronic Reserve Page for them on which will be kept in electronic format certain types of materials (Eg. Articles from journals, chapters from books, links to websites, etc.)
Submitting materials:
Requesting Traditional Reserve Materials: please fill in this form and send to library.
Requesting Electronic Reserve materials: please fill in this form and return to library with bibliographic information required (see Policies and procedures).

Directory of Madrid LibrariesMadrid has a great variety of different types of libraries, the majority of which are open to the public, thus providing a rich resource for investigative purposes for both students and other academic researchers. This directory consists of those libraries that the Madrid Campus Library considers would be most useful and interesting for members of our campus community. Aside from these introductory comments, the listing consists of the name of the library and link to its website where viewer will find most complete information about the library, including location, services and policies as well as access to its online catalog. To facilitate usage of this directory, the libraries have been grouped according to types.
When visiting these libraries it is advisable to carry with your SLU ID as well as official identification (eg.: Passport, Residence Card, Spanish National ID) as you will often be required to show these upon entry. Such identification will also be necessary if you plan to apply for a library card when this available (eg. Public libraries).
Public libraries, with exception of the National Library, will have most of their resources in Spanish. However, academic, governmental, museum and other specialized libraries will have many materials in other languages, including of course English. Loan privileges are available at public libraries, with exception of the National Library. You will need to apply for a library card, which will be extended immediately in most cases. The remainder of the libraries will generally only offer reader privileges. Some libraries may require a letter of presentation in order to access their collections. To obtain this letter contact our campus Library Office (library-madrid@slu.edu).
The hours of the libraries can be found on the individual websites. However please keep in mind that some libraries may close during evenings and on weekends, keep reduced hours during summer months and that many are completely closed during the month of August. In addition, most university libraries may limit access to their facilities during mid-term and final exam periods (usually months of February and June).
For clarifications of the above or more specific information about these libraries contact SLU-Madrid Campus Library (library-madrid@slu.edu).
