Requirements for the Major

30 hours (minimum)

Course-level Requirements:

• A maximum of 12 hours of 300-level courses in English.
  
• A minimum of 18 hours of 400-level courses in English.

Area Requirements:

• British literature prior to 1800 (6 hours)
  
• British literature after 1800, including postcolonial and world (6 hours)
  
• American literature (3 hours)

Campus Requirements:

• Students must plan to take three courses (9 hours), including their senior seminar (ENGL-494), at the Frost Campus in St. Louis, Missouri.

We strongly recommend that students take two or more of the following courses, two of which may be applied to fulfill Area Requirements, before taking 400-level course work:

• ENGL-320: British Literary Traditions I (Beginning-1800)
