Arabic language and culture is growing in importance day by day in the modern world. At Saint Louis University Madrid Campus, we have long-term experience teaching Arabic language, taking advantage of our location in Spain, geographically and culturally close to the Arabic world. In fact, the Spanish language contains over 2,000 words of Arabic origin, and the cultural inheritance of the Arabic world is highly visible in Spain, especially in Andalusia (Al-Andalus). In Madrid, there is a vital Arabic community, with its institutions, organizations, and cultural activities.
At Saint Louis University Madrid Campus, we teach Al- Fusha Arabic, in its modern aspect, which is practical in the fields of business, tourism, and communication, and is spoken in more than 20 Arabic-speaking countries. The program is based on best methods as gleaned from a number of Arabic language teaching books in both English and Spanish, and uses up-to-date audiovisual teaching methods; thus students complete our courses with a firm grasp on the language. Our program also includes a cultural component through language exchanges and workshops with fellow Arabic-speaking students, through a yearly trip to the Arabic-speaking world (Morocco, Libya, Tunisia…) and through guest speakers on Arabic language and culture. A number of Saint Louis University students have gone on to further their academic and professional careers in the Arabic-speaking world after having studied Arabic here in Madrid.
