SPAN-432 Themes in Latin American Literature: Pre-Columbian and Colonial Literature

Prerequisite: SPAN-410, SPAN-415 and SPAN-420, or advanced fluency
Curriculum: Fulfills Spanish major or minor; fulfills upper-division literature requirement for A&S and Business; IAS Certificate elective
Description: Analysis of pre-Columbian and colonial literature of the nuevo mundo, studies of indigenous narrative and poetry, and a selection of works of Bartolomé de las Casas, Hernán Cortés, El Inca Garcilaso, Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Carlos Sigüenza y Góngora and Concolocorvo.
