SPAN-418 Spanish Culture and Civilization

Prerequisite: SPAN-415 or equivalent
Curriculum: Fulfills Spanish major or minor (native speakers may not enroll); IAS Certificate elective
Description: La cultura española a través de los siglos. An interdisciplinary study of human presence in the Iberian peninsula from the beginning of time; Analysis of geographical, historical, cultural and literary factors in the make-up of the nation; review of the development and main characteristics of a distinctively Spanish art, with emphasis on the twentieth century.

Mandatory Trips: Various destinations within Spain - estimated cost for summer, €300 (Zaragoza); for fall, €575 (Trip 1 - Huesca; Trip 2 - Extremadura); for spring, €575 (Trip 1 - Northern Spain; Trip 2 - Extremadura); fees must be paid by first day of class.
