PHIL-485 Topics: Ethics and Animals

Description: Moral obligations to animals? An introduction to contemporary debates concerning the moral status of nonhuman animals. Analysis of ethical issues arising from our relations with animals, such as their use in scientific research, human consumption of animals as food and the practice of hunting. Examination of the differences between the "animal rights" and "animal liberation" perspectives. Consideration of the implications of major ethical theories for our treatment of animals. (3 Credits)
