ENGL-477 Twentieth-Century American Poetry
Syllabus
Prerequisite: ENGL-190; recommended, at least one 200-level English course.
Curriculum: Fulfills Upper Division Literature Requirement for A&S and Business; honors credit available for eligible students.
Description: A study of the major cultural and literary movements, including Modernism, the Harlem Renaissance, Formalism, Confessional poetry, the Beat Generation and the avant garde. Authors to be studied include William Carlos Williams, T.S. Eliot, H.D., Mina Loy, Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Robert Frost, Wallace Stevens, Allen Ginsberg, Sylvia Plath, Teresa Hak Kyung Cha, Adrienne Rich, Louise Erdrich and Rosmarie Waldrop.
