ENGL-434 Falling in Love in the Renaissance

Description: From the flirtatious verse between Elizabeth I and Sir Walter Raleigh to Milton’s epic about the origins of marriage to the amorous verse of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, an examination of why the subject of love dominates so much of the poetry and prose of the Renaissance. The language of desire and betrayal set in personal, political, historical, literary and cultural contexts. (3 Credits)
