ENGL-340 World Literary Traditions I

Prerequisite: ENGL-190; recommended, at least one 200-level English course
Curriculum: Fulfills Upper Division Literature Requirement for A&S and Business
Description: The European texts that shaped both literature in English and Western thought: Homer, Virgil, Dante, Boccaccio, Chaucer, Rabelais and Cervantes. A study of Greco-Roman literary epics, and later medieval and Renaissance developments and adaptations of the genre. Attention to the aesthetic, spiritual and cultural issues they set into dialogue as well as to how we respond to them in the twenty-first century. Students enrolled in this class are invited to participate in the academic excursion to Greece.
