ECON-379 The Economies of Latin America and Iberia

Prerequisite: ECON-190
Curriculum: Fulfills International Business/Economics requirement; fulfills IR core requirement; fulfills IAS Certificate requirement; honors credit available for eligible students.
Description: A new institutional economic history approach to a review of the political economy of growth and development in Ibero-America. An exploration of the roots of institutional underdevelopment in Latin America as an explanation for the underperformance of the contemporary liberal economic model.
Current Texts: selected readings
Optional Trip: Chile, Bolivia and Brazil - estimated cost, €2,400. This excursion, which begins after the final exam period, is mandatory for students pursuing the IAS certificate.
