EAS-131 Water: Our Precious Resource

Curriculum: Fulfills natural science requirement for A&S, Business and Engineering
Description: An overview of the hydrological cycle, the importance of water in earth systems, its uses and misuses in meeting human needs, environmental systems associated with water, water resources management laws and agencies that currently regulate and manage them, and both the historical and modern conflicts that have arisen due to water scarcity. Topics include: endangered species, energy production, indigenous rights, and cultural preservation. Students who enroll in summer 2008 will visit Expo Zaragoza four times as an integral part of the class.

Mandatory Trip: Integrated into the course there are 4 interactive excursions to Expo 2008 (Zaragoza) on Water and Sustainable Development and two field trips in Madrid area. Estimated cost €250.
