Description: The science of verbal expression. Understanding communication through analysis of what language is, how it functions in society and how it is used to convey different meanings. Focus on syntax, morphology, phonology, semantics (sexist language, dialect discrimination, euphemisms and taboo language), pragmatics and discourse grammar.
