CHEM-342 Principles of Organic Chemistry I


Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in CHEM-164
Curriculum: Fulfills natural science requirement for A&S, Business and Engineering; Biology, Environmental Science and Preprofessional Health Studies requirement

Description: The science of carbon. Modern organic chemistry of aliphatic and aromatic compounds. Study of the structure and properties of organic molecules, and transition states; kinetics of reaction and reaction mechanisms: free radical substitution reactions of alkanes; stereochemistry, nucleophilic aliphatic substitution, and reactions of alcohols, ethers and epoxides; alkenes; electrophilic free radical, stereoelective and stereospecific reactions.
