ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
At the Madrid campus, placement into English classes is based on the TOEFL, an internationally recognized examination that tests a student’s level of English for academic purposes. We offer the paper-based version of this exam during our orientation program prior to each term (August 25 and January 12). All non-native speakers of English should plan on taking this exam on these dates.
Non-native speakers of English are excused from this exam only if they submit to their admissions counselor an official TOEFL score report or documented evidence of their English-language competency (for example, a Higher Level English A2 IB score of 4 or an IELTS minimum band score of 6.0). Contact your admissions counselor or the ESL Director if you have questions about your English placement.
