Tuition & Financial Aid

Tuition costs for 2007 (2008 fees available in February 2008):

  • M.A. students - $580 per credit hour
  • Cursos students - 360€ per credit hour

Saint Louis University works to ensure that the cost of obtaining a graduate degree is accessible to qualified students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds through offering both merit-based and need-based financial assistance. During the 2006-2007 academic year, over fifty percent of our graduate students received financial assistance.

Merit-based Scholarships
All applicants are considered for merit-based scholarships. The awards are based on the student’s past academic performance as well as potential to succeed in an academically demanding program and enhance the environment of the University.  The renewable scholarships range from ten to fifty percent of tuition costs and are awarded on an academic-year basis.

Need-based Financial Assistance
Graduate students with U.S. citizenship are eligible to apply for federal financial aid through our Missouri campus. The student should file the on-line FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. SLU’s school code is 002506.

Internships and Assistantships
Students who have completed one term of study on the Madrid campus are eligible to apply for internships or assistantships.  These work opportunities are designed to enhance the graduate student’s academic experience by giving hands-on training within the university community. To apply, you must submit a formal letter of application along with your current curriculum vitae to the Human Resources Office at the Madrid campus; final candidates are interviewed by the director of the department. You must hold a student resident card and have your working papers in order before submitting documentation.  Students appointed to Internships and Assistantships receive a monthly stipend.

Internships: Internships entail working in an administrative office on campus - the Office of Student Life, the Office of Admissions, or the library, for example. Typically, interns manage a specific project or portfolio under the supervision of a department director.

Assistantships: There are three types of assistantships available at the Madrid campus:

  • The Graduate Teaching Assistant works with students in small groups, leads class discussions, monitors examinations, prepares lectures, conducts laboratory sessions, or is responsible for a course as a primary instructor. Prerequisite coursework is required to be eligible for the Graduate Teaching Assistantship.
  • The Graduate Research Assistant works with a faculty member within an academic department, most often conducting research.
  • The Resident Assistant (RA) accepts caretaker responsibilities in a University residencia in coordination with the Student Life Office.
Housing

During the summer session, University housing is available in the University residencias or with a host family; if you are coming with a spouse or family, you can make arrangements to rent a university apartment.

During the academic year, you may choose to live with a host family or, if you prefer, to find your own housing.
