Program

The Master of Arts degree program in Spanish at Saint Louis University is specifically designed for students interested in pursuing concentrated studies in a combination of Spanish language and Hispanic culture and literature.  The curriculum is suited to those individuals planning or already engaged in professional careers such as teaching or international affairs.  The program also prepares students who wish to continue study in a Ph.D. degree program in Spanish or a related field.

On the Madrid Campus, students have the option of obtaining their Master of Arts degree by enrolling in courses throughout the academic year, in a series of intensive six-week summer sessions or in a combination of the two.  You may complete the entire program in Madrid, or combine study in Madrid and at our home campus in St. Louis, Missouri.  Regardless of the option you ultimately choose, a full-time faculty member will serve as your advisor throughout your program to make sure you stay on track toward graduation.

Cursos de Perfeccionamiento

Designed for secondary school teachers of Spanish, our five-week in-service language and literature program allows you to earn two to eight credits by taking one to four enrichment courses.  You will improve your oral and written communication skills and broaden your knowledge of Spanish literature and culture as you study with our Ph.D. faculty, all of whom are native Spanish speakers.  As a part of each course your professor will introduce you to uniquely Spanish cultural offerings around Madrid that you will be able to share with your students and professional colleagues for years to come.
