Admissions Requirements and Application Procedures



Applications are evaluated by faculty members for evidence of preparation for advanced study of literature and the likelihood of academic success.  Candidates should have completed at least 18 hours of upper division Spanish courses (for both M.A. and Cursos applicants). 

To be considered for fall admission, please submit all documents to Saint Louis University, Madrid Campus, at the address given below by 30 May.  The deadline for summer admission is 1 April. 


Master’s Degree Candidates

As you are applying for admission into the Graduate School of Saint Louis University, you must follow their guidelines carefully.  Application packets for the Master’s Program in Spanish are available upon request by e-mailing us directly at the address given below. 

All application materials (with the exception of the GRE scores) must be sent directly to the Madrid Campus.  Applications are initially reviewed in Madrid and then forwarded to the Graduate School in Missouri for final approval.

Applications are evaluated for evidence of preparation for advanced study of literature and the likelihood of academic success.

Master’s application deadlines:
- Spring 2008 - October 30
- Summer 2008 - April 1
- Fall 2008 - May 30


The application package should include the following:

  • Application form.  
  • Original academic transcripts (undergraduate and graduate.)
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic and professional experience and potential.
  • Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test Scores.
  • A Statement of Purpose of 500 words that addresses your intellectual and professional goals.
  • A CV.
  • A brief academic writing sample in Spanish.
  • US$40 Application Fee (U.S. checks should be made payable to Saint Louis University.)

Cursos Candidates

As you are applying for admissions into a non-degree program, the application procedure is less formal. 

Please follow the guidelines outlined below. 
  • Apply on-line as a visiting U.S. student for the second summer session and pay the $45 on-line application fee.
  • Ask that official transcripts of all undergraduate, graduate and/or professional school work be sent to the Madrid Campus.
  • Though not required, we highly recommend that you send at least one letter of recommendation from your department chair, principal or other professional contact.
