Saint Louis University
Character: Saint Louis University is a Catholic Jesuit university and leading research institution. Founded in 1818, the University strives to foster the intellectual and spiritual growth of its students through a broad array of undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs on campuses in St. Louis, Missouri and Madrid Spain.

Enrollment: Over 11,000 full- and part-time students, 4,000 of whom study in graduate or professional programs; enrollment in the M.A. Program in Madrid is limited to 20.

Facilities: The Saint Louis University campus is an architecturally rich urban campus centrally located in St. Louis, Missouri. The combined holdings of its libraries total over 1.4 million volumes, 12,800 serial subscriptions, 1.1 million microfilms, and over 200,000 government documents. Its Madrid campus, located in the city’s university quadrant, is comprised of modern classroom buildings with state-of-the-art computer labs that link directly to all library databases in St. Louis.


Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
Character: Founded in 1968, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is one of the most prestigious research universities in Spain. Its English Department offers a B.A./Licenciatura and Ph.D./Doctorado in British and American Literature and Linguistics.

Enrollment: Over 40,000 full-time and visiting students. About 3,300 students pursue graduate study, with over 500 students enrolled in international programs.

Facilities: Spacious campus to the north of Madrid easily accessible by public transportation. The extensive library system gives students access to 500,000 volumes and 4,500 journal subscriptions.

The MA Program is offered by the combined English Departments of the St. Louis, Missouri and Madrid Campuses of Saint Louis University and of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
